The Delta State Police Command has issued a strict warning to Point of Sale (POS) operators, urging them to avoid processing transactions exceeding ₦500,000, as such activities could potentially link them to criminal operations, particularly kidnappings.
SP Bright Edafe, the Public Relations Officer of the Command, highlighted a recent case in which a POS operator received a ransom payment of ₦4,000,000 from kidnappers, profiting only ₦40,000 from the transaction. “Don’t be a tool for kidnappers to collect ransom,” Edafe warned. “It must be traced to you.”
The police reiterated the importance of vigilance and compliance with federal transaction limits designed to prevent misuse by criminals. POS operators were encouraged to report any suspicious transactions and adhere strictly to guidelines to avoid legal trouble.
“Be wise,” Edafe advised operators. “You may argue that you are doing business, but before your lawyer will get you out, you may spend some time cooling off in prison.”
The Command’s warning underscores the significant role POS operators play in maintaining security and the risks associated with neglecting regulatory measures.
