The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) and the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) have announced power outages in several communities following flooding caused by heavy rainfall and transmission network faults.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, EKEDC said electricity supply to parts of its network had been reduced after outages on the Oshogbo–Ikeja 330kV and Benin–Egbin 330kV transmission lines, resulting in load shedding across several business units.
The affected areas include Chevy View Estate, Chevron Drive, Agungi, Alpha Beach, Ikate, Elegushi, Carlton Gate, Kusenla, Victory Park Estate, Oniru, Maroko, Muri Okunola, Ajose Adeogun, Ligali Ayorinde, parts of Aboyade Cole, Morinho Drive, Landmark Road, Igbo Efon, Lekki Tollgate 2, Igbokusu, Gbangbala, Platinum Way, Jakande/Coastal Road, OADC/Mayegun, Ajiran, Chevron Alternative and Osapa London.
The distribution company attributed the disruption to the failure of the Oshogbo–Ikeja and Benin–Egbin 330kV transmission lines, which led to a reduction in electricity allocation from the national grid.
EKEDC said it was working closely with the national grid operator to restore normal supply once the affected transmission lines are repaired but did not provide a timeline for restoration.
Meanwhile, IBEDC said flooding at the Ilerin Injection Substation, triggered by a heavy rainstorm, disrupted electricity supply to several communities in Osun State.
The company said the flooding affected the Isare, Irogbo and Mount Carmel 11kV feeders, causing outages in Ifewara, Iwara, Bolorunduro, Irogbo, Ayeso, Odo-Oro, Wesley, Express Area, Ilerin, Irojo, Olomilagbala, Iwikun, Isare and neighbouring communities.
IBEDC said its technical team had commenced efforts to restore electricity supply and apologised to customers for the inconvenience caused by the disruption.
