Notorious billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, popularly known as Evans, was re-arraigned on Monday by the Lagos State Government on fresh murder charges linked to the deaths of two police officers.
The case, now before Justice Oyindamola Ogala of the Lagos State High Court, Ikeja, was transferred from Justice Adenike Coker, marking another phase in Evans’ protracted legal battles.
At the resumed hearing, State Prosecutor A.O. Azeez confirmed the case transfer and sought a fresh arraignment despite Evans’ earlier plea bargain attempts before the previous judge.
Evans, represented by Charity O., and his co-defendant, Joseph Ikenna Emeka, represented by L.C. Onyejiakor, both pleaded not guilty to the five-count amended charge.
According to the prosecution, the defendants allegedly murdered two police officers, Peter Nweke and Chijioke Ngozi, on August 27, 2013, around 10 p.m. at Festac Town, Lagos.
Evans, who is already serving jail terms in two of his five ongoing criminal cases, faces another legal hurdle as the court adjourned proceedings to November 19, 2025, for hearing and issuance of witness summons.
