Nigerian artists Fireboy DML and Asake have achieved a new milestone as their hit single, “Bandana,” is certified silver in the United Kingdom by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), signifying over 200,000 units sold. This accomplishment marks Asake’s first UK certification and highlights the global rise of Afrobeats, which has experienced a remarkable 1,200% streaming increase on Spotify since 2017.

Asake, born Ahmed Ololade, recently received his first Grammy nomination, underscoring his rapid ascent in the international music scene. He joins fellow Nigerian nominees like Rema, Tems, Yemi Alade, Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Davido, showcasing Nigeria’s rich musical talent on the world stage.

Fireboy DML, also known as Adedamola Adefolahan, continues his streak of global success with “Bandana.” Known for hits like “Peru” and “Jealous,” Fireboy has built a substantial international following, solidifying his reputation as one of Nigeria’s leading musical exports.

The success of “Bandana” is part of a larger trend for Afrobeats. Burna Boy became the first Nigerian artist to achieve a silver-certified album in the UK with African Giant, while Wizkid’s collaboration with Drake on “One Dance” brought Afrobeats into mainstream global music.

“Bandana’s” silver certification is a landmark achievement not only for Fireboy DML and Asake but also for Nigeria’s music industry, underscoring the genre’s expanding global influence and the growing potential for Nigerian artists on the international stage.
