By Ayomide Otitoju

First Bank of Nigeria Limited has announced its partnership with the organizers of the maiden edition of the E1 Lagos GP, an all-electric powerboat racing championship scheduled to take place from October 3–5, 2025.

Speaking at the Stakeholder Immersion session in Lagos, Olayinka Ijabiyi, Acting Group Head, Marketing and Corporate Communications at FirstBank, reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to supporting initiatives that drive human development and preserve sporting legacies.

“Our involvement in the E1 Lagos GP is about driving legacy and enabling the passions that unite Nigerians,” Ijabiyi said. “Through our First@Sports initiative, we continue to invest in platforms that inspire, just as we have done with legacy tournaments like the Georgian Polo Cup, hosted for 105 years, and the Lagos Amateur Open Golf Championship, which we’ve supported for 64 years.”

The event will coincide with the start of the fourth quarter and align with FirstBank’s annual DecemberIssaVybe initiative, which blends culture, entertainment, and lifestyle to celebrate Nigeria’s festive season. As presenting partner, FirstBank aims to create meaningful experiences for customers and showcase Lagos’s energy on a global stage.

Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, praised the initiative as a platform to boost sports while highlighting the city’s culture, vibrancy, and international relevance.

The Lagos GP will feature teams owned by international stars including Tom Brady, LeBron James, Didier Drogba, Will Smith, Marc Anthony, Steve Aoki, and Rafael Nadal. The 2025 season will conclude in Miami, United States.
