Committed to averting the adverse effects of perennial flooding in the country, the Ogun State Government is collaborating with the Federal Government to ensure the speedy commencement of the ecological projects in Ilaro and Ijebu-Ode, recently approved by the Federal Executive Council.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment, Mr. Ola Oresanya, disclosed this while presenting the mid-year budget performance of the Ministry before members of the State House of Assembly Committee on Environment led by Hon. Wahab Haruna at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Oresanya explained that the State had formed a team to meet the Federal Government through appropriate agencies for mobilisation of contractors to the two sites, while efforts were in top gear to identify other areas for the attention of the Federal Government.
The Special Adviser pointed out that the Ministry was working to ensure desilting of drainage channels, cleaning of stream paths and erosion control in towns across the State, adding that it was collaborating with other relevant agencies to curb indiscriminate dumping of refuse in non-designated places.
In their reactions, the Committee Chairman, Hon. Haruna and other members including Honourables Ademuyiwa Adeyemi, Kemi Oduwole, Kunle Sobunkanla and Solomon Osho charged the Ministry to intensify efforts towards increasing enlightenment programmes to avert flooding and promote a safe and conducive environment across the State.
Also, the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investments presented its mid-year budget performance with an assurance that it would improve on measures towards curbing illegal mining and mineral exploitation in all parts of the State.
Making the presentation, Commissioner in the Ministry, Mrs. Kikelomo Longe, stated that effective exploitation and mapping of mineral resources in the State, were part of the Ministry’s holistic policies being implemented to enhance industrial and commercial growth.
Other agencies who made presentations at the session include the Ogun State Property and Investment Corporation, State Emergency Management Agency, State Agricultural and Multi-Purpose Credit Agency, among others.
OGHA Lauds Bureau of lands, housing corporation on increased revenue
The Ogun State House of Assembly’s Committee on Lands and Housing has commended the Bureau of Lands and Survey (BLS) and State Housing Corporation for generating over N3.760bn and N1.197bn respectively, as revenue between January and June this year.
The Committee Chairman, Hon. Damilola Soneye, gave the commendations, while responding to the presentation on budget performance of both agencies at the ongoing 2021 half year budget performance appraisal, at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Soneye in company of his colleague lawmakers, appreciated the efforts of the Corporation in addressing the housing deficit among low income earners in the State, charging the two agencies to further improve on their performances before the end of the year.
Earlier, the Special Adviser/Director-General of BLS, Mr. Aina Salami stated that the revenue was generated from survey, planning and building, inspection, administration fees, among others, adding that the agency’s achievements were due to the actualisation of the initiative and policies of Governor Dapo Abiodun led-administration in alleviating poverty.
On his part, the General Manager of the State Housing Corporation, Esv. Wale Ojo said the Corporation had provided affordable shelter for the people, with various residential building projects in Abeokuta and Ijebu Ode.
