Barcelona have confirmed the signing of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United in a deal worth up to €80 million ($93 million).
The La Liga champions announced on Friday that the 25-year-old winger has agreed a five-year contract running until June 30, 2031.
Gordon, who scored 17 goals for Newcastle this season—including 10 in the Champions League—finishes as the club’s top scorer and arrives as a key attacking reinforcement for Barcelona.
The England international’s arrival comes as Barcelona prepare for the possible departures of veteran striker Robert Lewandowski, whose contract is expiring, and loanee Marcus Rashford, whose future remains uncertain after his spell from Manchester United.
Barcelona are also expected to remain active in the transfer market, with reports linking Atlético Madrid striker Julian Alvarez to a move, while discussions over retaining Rashford have not been ruled out.
The Catalan club’s improved financial position—following a period of reduced spending and the partial reopening of Camp Nou—has given them greater flexibility under La Liga’s financial fair play regulations.
Several squad adjustments are also anticipated, with potential departures including Roony Bardghji, Ansu Fati and goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen.
Gordon’s transfer marks Newcastle’s second-largest sale in history, behind the £125 million departure of Alexander Isak to Liverpool last summer.
Newcastle are reportedly considering Real Betis winger Ez Abde as a possible replacement.
Gordon originally joined Newcastle from Everton in 2023 for £45 million, with Everton set to receive 15 per cent of the profit from the player’s sale.
