Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on Wednesday disbursed cheques worth ₦2.17 billion to 1,574 beneficiaries and next-of-kin of deceased police officers under the Group Life Assurance and IGP Family Welfare Schemes.
The presentation ceremony, held at Force Headquarters in Abuja, was attended by members of the Force Management Team, insurance stakeholders, and beneficiaries. The benefits cover policy years from 2015 to 2025, including recoveries of claims that had been pending for nearly a decade.
According to the IGP, this marks the 11th disbursement since he assumed office, bringing the total amount released under his administration to ₦24.2 billion, benefiting 9,735 families of fallen officers.
Egbetokun described the initiative as a solemn duty of remembrance and responsibility, reaffirming that the welfare of officers—serving, retired, or deceased—remains a central priority of his administration. He noted that the Force is redesigning its welfare system to be more transparent, digitized, and efficient in ensuring prompt payment of entitlements.
He commended the Force Insurance Unit for its diligence, the insurance firms for fulfilling their obligations, and the Ministry of Police Affairs for its guidance. The IGP also expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continued support of police welfare programmes.
