Malami Resists EFCC Property Forfeiture in Abuja

By Ayomide Otitoju

Abubakar Malami, former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, faced an EFCC enforcement operation on Monday as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission moved to mark properties linked to him in Abuja.

EFCC operatives, accompanied by armed security personnel, arrived at the sites to carry out forfeiture proceedings, but encountered resistance from Malami and others present. In video footage obtained by Channels Television, Malami is seen confronting an EFCC official, demanding to see a valid court order authorising the action.

The EFCC official maintained that the Commission was acting within its legal powers, stating that the properties were already subject to a forfeiture order. Malami disputed this, claiming any such order had expired and insisting the official provide supporting documentation.

During the operation, one of the properties was marked with a visible inscription reading: “Restrained order EFCC keep off.”
