Mini Truck Crashes Into Cars on Otedola Bridge, Disrupts Traffic

By Ayomide Otitoju

A mini truck carrying goods rammed into two cars on the Otedola Bridge section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Friday, causing extensive damage and disrupting traffic.

The incident occurred around noon and was reportedly caused by brake failure, according to eyewitnesses. The truck lost control, veered off its lane, and collided with the two vehicles, sending a black SUV onto another car. Both cars sustained severe damage.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the crash, noting that no casualties were reported. In a statement on its official X handle, the agency said: “A multiple vehicle accident involving a truck and two cars has occurred along Berger inward Secretariat. Authorities are present at the scene to ensure safety and restore normalcy. No casualties have been recorded as of the time of this report. Traffic backlog has extended from Jubilee Estate back to Berger New Garage.”

LASTMA added that emergency responders are on site, and efforts to clear the wreckage and ease congestion are ongoing.

Otedola Bridge has long been a high-risk area, particularly for crashes involving heavy-duty vehicles. In June 2018, a tanker explosion on the bridge killed at least 12 people and destroyed dozens of vehicles. Multiple recent accidents along the corridor continue to raise safety concerns.
