MTN Cites Success of Drug Awareness Campaign

By Ayomide Otitoju

The MTN Foundation has reaffirmed its commitment to combating substance abuse in Nigeria through its Anti-Substance Abuse Programme (ASAP), highlighting the impact of the initiative as activities marking World Drug Day took place across the country.

The Foundation said the programme continues to make a difference through awareness campaigns and early intervention, citing the testimony of a recovering young man during the recent MTN ASAP Walk held at the University of Lagos.

According to the Foundation, the young man recounted how substance abuse disrupted his education, damaged family relationships and nearly derailed his future, underscoring the importance of sustained public awareness and prevention efforts.

As part of the 2026 World Drug Day activities, the MTN Foundation joined the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and other stakeholders in Abuja to reinforce their shared commitment to tackling drug abuse through education, advocacy and strategic collaboration.

The Foundation said the next phase of the Anti-Substance Abuse Programme will focus on training teachers and expanding youth sensitisation campaigns to reach more schools and communities nationwide.

It noted that the initiative remains focused on promoting awareness, encouraging early intervention and equipping young people with the knowledge needed to make informed decisions and avoid substance abuse.
