In a major boost for Nigeria’s gas sector, NNPC Gas Marketing Ltd (NGML), a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd (NNPC), and its joint venture partner, NIPCO Gas Ltd, have signed a Gas Sale and Purchase Agreement (GSPA) with Ssonic Petroleum Ltd.

The deal will facilitate the supply of natural gas to Ssonic Petroleum’s planned Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) plant in the Lekki Free Trade Zone, Lagos State.

NNPC Ltd’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, described the agreement as a strategic move to strengthen Nigeria’s gas industry and accelerate industrial growth.

Under the terms of the agreement, the NGML-NIPCO Unincorporated Joint Venture will supply 80 million standard cubic feet per day of natural gas to the LNG plant over a 20-year period.

“This agreement aligns with our vision to deepen domestic gas utilization, enhance energy security, and position natural gas as the fuel of choice for Nigeria’s economic transformation,” Soneye stated.

The partnership is also expected to advance Nigeria’s energy transition agenda by promoting natural gas as a cleaner and more cost-effective alternative to traditional fossil fuels.

“Gas remains a crucial component in reducing carbon emissions and achieving global climate goals. This deal is part of NNPC Ltd’s broader commitment to boosting local gas infrastructure, attracting investments, and ensuring that Nigeria fully harnesses its vast gas resources for sustainable economic development,” he added.

This latest agreement marks another milestone in NNPC’s efforts to expand Nigeria’s domestic gas market and reinforce the country’s position as a key player in the global LNG industry.
