The Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has commenced a two-day Train the Trainer program aimed at enhancing the capacity and professionalism of operators in the private security industry.
The program, held at Theodolite House, Anthony, Lagos, was inaugurated on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, by the Lagos State Commandant, Mr. Adedotun Keshinro. Participants, drawn from licensed private guard companies across the state, will undergo intensive sessions facilitated by experts, including Professor Adedeji Oyenuga and Dr. Isimamen Funto Akhimen from Lagos State University.
Emphasis on Professionalism
Addressing participants, Commandant Keshinro commended those adhering to industry standards but issued a stern warning to operators engaging in quack practices.
“Quackery undermines government efforts and sets the industry backward. Operators must comply with standard practices or face the full wrath of the law,” he stated.
The Commandant highlighted the importance of the program, which focuses on equipping trainers with the knowledge and skills to uphold professionalism, legality, and standardization in private security operations.
Training Objectives and Theme
Themed “Private Security Guards Operations and Administration: Control and Monitoring Mechanism, Physical Assets’ Security, and Effective Vulnerability Risk Assessment Strategies,” the training aims to build a robust framework for monitoring and enhancing private security services in Lagos State.
The free program also seeks to ensure that participants transfer the acquired knowledge to their guards, thereby strengthening the operational capacity of the private security industry.
Stakeholders’ Commendation
The Chairman of the Lagos Zone of the Association of Licensed Private Security Practitioners of Nigeria (ALPSPN), Mr. Babatunde Mumuni, lauded the Lagos NSCDC Command for its proactive approach to industry development.
“This initiative is unprecedented in recent times. Practitioners must leverage this training to make meaningful impacts in their organizations,” Mumuni remarked.
The program, which began with Batch A participants, will conclude on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, with sessions for Batch B. It marks another step in the NSCDC’s commitment to fostering professionalism and improving security services across the state.
