South Africa has simplified its visa process for Nigerian tourists and businesspeople, eliminating the requirement to submit passports for applications. President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the policy change at the 11th Nigeria-South Africa Bi-National Commission (BNC) in Cape Town, attended by President Bola Tinubu.
The new measures include five-year multiple-entry visas for qualified Nigerian business travelers, reflecting efforts to enhance bilateral ties. “Our simplified visa process aims to foster travel for Nigerian businesspeople and tourists,” Ramaphosa said in a statement issued by Presidential Adviser Bayo Onanuga.
Strengthening Economic Cooperation
Ramaphosa emphasized the importance of removing barriers to investment and resolving challenges faced by companies in both nations. “As we mark 30 years of diplomatic relations, we see a bright future for our partnership built on strong bonds of friendship,” he said.
The South African president commended Nigeria’s economic reforms, which aim to improve the business environment and attract foreign investment. “We look forward to seeing more Nigerian companies investing in South Africa as we continue enhancing the ease of doing business,” he added.
Ramaphosa also pledged to prioritize Africa’s development and the challenges of the Global South at the G20, signaling a commitment to regional progress and international cooperation.
