By Ayomide Otitoju

The NNPC Limited Gas Master Plan took centre stage on Wednesday at the Nigeria International Energy Summit (NIES) 2026 in Abuja, as senior executives of the national oil company highlighted its strategic priorities and implementation framework.

The Executive Vice President, Gas, Power and New Energy at NNPC Limited, Olalekan Ogunleye, alongside the Focal Lead of the Gas Master Plan Implementation Assurance Team, Ekpei Ukam, served as key panellists during a session titled “Driving Exponential Growth Through Value-Adding Partnerships and Cost Efficiency.”

Ogunleye outlined the core pillars of the NNPC Gas Master Plan 2026, which he said are anchored on cost competitiveness, a strong focus on end-users and a shift from zero-sum competition to value-adding collaboration across the industry. He noted that NNPC Limited’s gas strategy is built around cost control, customer priorities and partnerships aimed at delivering sustainable value for the company, its partners and the Nigerian economy.

He also commended the Federal Government for supportive fiscal and policy measures that have improved the operating environment, while acknowledging the contributions of NNPC Limited’s board, management, workforce, regulators and industry partners in translating Nigeria’s vast gas resources into broader economic gains.

The executives further explained that the Gas Master Plan aligns industry efforts to meet the Presidential mandate of raising national gas production to 10 billion cubic feet per day by 2027 and 12 billion cubic feet per day by 2030, while attracting more than $60 billion in new investments across the oil and gas value chain by the end of the decade.

The panel session formed part of a broader engagement on the NNPC Limited Gas Master Plan at NIES 2026, which featured executives from Aradel Holdings, Renaissance Africa Energy Company, Seplat Energy, the Decade of Gas Secretariat and other members of the implementation team, focusing on value creation and effective execution within the gas sector.
