Polaris Bank Limited, in collaboration with the Nigeria Conservation Foundation (NCF), has expanded its nationwide tree-planting initiative to Kano State, with a recent commemorative event held at Ajingi Community Reserve, Kunkurawa.
The initiative, which aligns with the 2024 World Environment Day theme, “Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience,” initially kicked off in June at Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijebu Ode, Ogun State. The project aims to address environmental challenges through land restoration and raising awareness of the importance of sustainability.
Representing the bank’s Chief Executive Officer, Lawal Akintola, Polaris Bank’s Divisional Head, North, Mahmud Kawu, emphasized the bank’s commitment to sustainability. He stated, “At Polaris Bank, sustainability is more than a catchphrase; it is at the core of who we are. Our commitment is reflected in our operations, from promoting responsible banking to addressing environmental challenges.”
Kawu highlighted the importance of their collaboration with the NCF, noting that the foundation’s dedication to environmental preservation and sustainable economic growth aligns perfectly with the bank’s mission. He also urged local residents to actively participate in the scheme to ensure long-term environmental protection.
Akintola further underscored the benefits of the tree-planting initiative, explaining that it helps restore degraded areas, prevent soil erosion, and enhance biodiversity. “Trees absorb CO2, regulate the climate, and play a critical role in reducing carbon footprints,” he said, affirming the bank’s dedication to environmental stewardship and community well-being.
Polaris Bank’s tree-planting initiative not only seeks to restore ecosystems but also fosters public awareness about the importance of environmental sustainability, ensuring a greener future for all.
