A Sagamu Magistrate Court in Ogun State has scheduled January 20, 2026, for the trial of Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, the driver of a Lexus SUV involved in a road crash that killed two associates of heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua.
Kayode, 46, was arraigned on Friday by the Ogun State Police Command on four counts related to the accident. Police confirmed the charges, which include dangerous driving causing death under Section 5(1) of the Federal Highway Act; reckless and negligent driving under Section 6(1); driving without due care causing bodily harm and property damage under Section 7(1); and driving without a valid National Driver’s Licence under Section 10(1).
The court granted Kayode bail in the sum of ₦5 million with two sureties, and proceedings were adjourned to January 20, 2026, to allow for further legal processes, Police Public Relations Officer Oluseyi Babaseyi said in a statement issued in Abeokuta.
The crash occurred on Monday along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway while Kayode was transporting Joshua and two friends, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami. The SUV collided with a stationary truck, resulting in the deaths of Ayodele and Ghami at the scene. Joshua and the driver sustained minor injuries.
Anthony Joshua was discharged from hospital on Wednesday after being certified fit to continue recovery at home. Reports indicated that he and his mother visited a Lagos funeral home on Wednesday to pay their final respects to the deceased, whose bodies were being prepared for repatriation.
