Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Olusegun Awolowo, grandson of the late Premier of the Western Region and nationalist, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

In a statement issued on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, the governor described the former Executive Director of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) as a patriotic Nigerian who served with vision, integrity, and unwavering commitment.

Sanwo-Olu extended his condolences to the Awolowo family, as well as friends and associates of the deceased, noting that his passing was both shocking and a great loss to the nation.

“It is with a deep sense of sorrow that I commiserate with the family, friends and associates of the late Olusegun Awolowo,” he said. “He was undoubtedly a great Nigerian who served his country passionately and remained a worthy ambassador of the Awolowo family.”

The governor prayed for strength and comfort for the bereaved family and for the peaceful repose of Olusegun Awolowo’s soul.
