A suspected gunman opened fire at a school in the southeastern Austrian city of Graz on Tuesday, leaving ten people dead, including several students, at least one adult, and the shooter himself, according to local authorities.
Graz Mayor Elke Kahr confirmed the fatalities to Austria’s national press agency APA, describing the incident as a tragic and unprecedented attack on the community.
“A police operation is currently ongoing. Gunshots were reported inside the building,” Austrian police announced on X, confirming the shooting and the security response in progress.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, but early reports indicate that it was not linked to terrorism.
