Tinubu Declares “Worst is Over” for Nigeria’s Economy

By Ayomide Otitoju

President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday assured Nigerians that the worst of the country’s economic challenges is over, citing the reforms undertaken by his administration. He made the remarks during a nationwide broadcast to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day anniversary.

“Our administration is setting things right. I am pleased to report that we have finally turned the corner. The worst is over, I say,” Tinubu stated.

Saluting Nigerians for their resilience and support, the President noted that past hardships are giving way to relief. “I will continue to work for you and justify the confidence you reposed in me to steer the ship of our nation to a safe harbour,” he said.

Highlighting the impact of his administration’s policies, Tinubu pointed to strong economic growth, noting that Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product expanded by 4.23 percent in Q2 2025—the fastest pace in four years—surpassing the 3.4 percent projected by the International Monetary Fund.
