President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Minister of Power, subject to confirmation by the Senate.
The nomination was disclosed on Thursday by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, who said it has been transmitted to the Senate for screening in line with constitutional provisions.
Tegbe’s nomination follows the resignation of Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue his governorship ambition in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 elections.
A fiscal and economic reform expert with over 35 years of experience, Tegbe previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led initiatives in fiscal policy reform, governance, and institutional transformation.
He also held the role of Director-General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, where he was involved in strengthening bilateral cooperation between Nigeria and China.
His experience in the power sector includes engagements with key institutions such as the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company.
According to the Presidency, the nomination is expected to bolster ongoing reforms aimed at improving grid stability, enhancing power supply, and attracting sustainable investment in the sector.
The development comes amid renewed focus on Nigeria’s power sector, which has faced persistent challenges, including recurring grid collapses and inadequate electricity supply.
