United Bank for Africa (UBA) has officially welcomed the festive season with its annual Garden Light-Up ceremony, hosted through its corporate social responsibility arm, the UBA Foundation.
The event, held at the UBA Foundation gardens on Lagos Marina, featured dazzling lights, festive decorations, fireworks, and live music, creating an atmosphere of celebration and community. This annual tradition underscores the bank’s commitment to spreading joy and fostering unity during the holiday season.
UBA CEO Celebrates Spirit of Giving
Speaking at the ceremony, UBA’s Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Oliver Alawuba, highlighted the importance of gratitude, togetherness, and giving back.
“As we approach Christmas, a season of love and generosity, we are reminded of the spirit of community. I want to thank our staff, customers, and partners for their sacrifices and contributions during what has been a challenging year. Together, we have achieved remarkable milestones,” Alawuba said.
He also expressed appreciation for the bank’s leadership, including Chairman Tony Elumelu, and reaffirmed UBA’s commitment to building a lasting heritage as it celebrates 75 years of service.
“This ceremony reflects our belief in family, unity, and giving back to the communities we serve. Let us all embrace the season by spreading kindness and light,” he added.
Festivities and Community Impact
The Garden Light-Up event featured Christmas carols performed by the UBA Customer Fulfilment Centre choir and ended with a guided tour of the illuminated gardens and a spectacular fireworks display.
Beyond the celebrations, the UBA Foundation is extending its festive spirit to communities across Africa. As part of its corporate social responsibility, the Foundation will provide meals to tens of thousands of people during the Yuletide.
