Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has announced plans to pay December salaries and the 13th-month bonus to state workers by December 20, 2024. Speaking during a meeting with leaders of workers’ unions, including the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Otti reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prioritizing workers’ welfare.
“Just like last year, I assure you the 13th-month salary will be paid. Before December 20, you will receive your December salaries to enable you to prepare for Christmas,” Otti told the union leaders.
Labour Leaders Laud Otti’s Commitment
The NLC Chairman, Ogbonnaya Okoro, praised the governor for his dedication to addressing workers’ concerns and ensuring their welfare remains a priority.
“Governor Otti, we commend your efforts and stand firmly behind your administration. Your prompt response to issues affecting workers is deeply appreciated, and we look forward to continued progress under your leadership,” Okoro stated.
Okoro also highlighted other pending workers’ concerns, pledging that union leaders would present these in due course while acknowledging the administration’s efforts thus far.
Otti Condemns PDP’s Shadow Government Move
In a separate development during the meeting, Governor Otti criticized the Abia State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for allegedly setting up a shadow government. He described the act as treasonous and vowed to take legal action.
“This attempt to establish a shadow government is not only baseless but also demonstrates a lack of understanding of Nigeria’s political structure. Such actions will be dealt with strictly within the confines of the law,” Otti declared.
The governor called on all political stakeholders to engage responsibly, emphasizing the need for unity and focus on development in Abia State.
