Mrs. Unoma Godswill Akpabio, wife of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, has filed lawsuits against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, seeking a total of ₦251 billion in damages over alleged defamatory statements.
The lawsuits, filed at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, accuse the Kogi Central senator of defamation and violating fundamental human rights. The legal dispute stems from remarks made by Akpoti-Uduaghan during a televised interview on Arise News TV, where she accused the Senate President of sexual harassment. She alleged that their conflict began after she rejected his purported advances.
In response, Mrs. Akpabio claims that the statements have caused severe psychological and emotional distress to her and her children. Through her fundamental rights lawsuit, she is seeking a court declaration that the remarks violated her rights and an order restraining Akpoti-Uduaghan from making further damaging statements. Additionally, she is demanding ₦250 billion in damages for the alleged emotional and psychological suffering.
In a separate defamation lawsuit, Mrs. Akpabio contends that Akpoti-Uduaghan’s allegations have significantly tarnished her family’s reputation. She is requesting a formal retraction of the statements, an unconditional public apology published in The Guardian and ThisDay newspapers, and ₦1 billion in punitive damages. She is also asking for a court order to prevent the senator from making further defamatory remarks against her family.
This legal action follows an earlier lawsuit filed by Akpoti-Uduaghan against Senate President Akpabio, in which she sought ₦100.3 billion in damages over claims that her Senate seat was allegedly altered without her consent.Unoma Akpabio Sues Akpoti-Uduaghan for ₦251 Billion
