Zenith Bank Plc has commemorated World Environment Day 2026 with a two-phase environmental clean-up exercise in Lagos State, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and responsible business practices.
The initiative, themed “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future,” began on Wednesday, 3 June 2026, with a staff-led street clean-up along Ajose Adeogun Street, Victoria Island. Employees cleared waste, sensitised residents on proper disposal methods, and promoted environmental stewardship as part of the Bank’s community engagement efforts.
The second phase took place on Thursday, 4 June 2026, featuring a waterways clean-up at Falomo Waterways in Ikoyi. The exercise was carried out in partnership with the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) and the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), focusing on the removal of marine debris and the promotion of cleaner waterways in support of climate resilience.
Speaking on the initiative, Group Managing Director/CEO, Dame Dr. Adaora Umeoji, said sustainability is central to the Bank’s operations, noting that environmental protection remains a shared responsibility.
She said the clean-up exercises reflect the Bank’s commitment to climate action, community well-being, and alignment with global environmental standards.
Zenith Bank said the initiative aligns with its broader Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategy, which supports investments in green initiatives, energy efficiency, and community development programmes in line with global sustainability goals.
