The Lagos State government has announced a 90-day repair project for major roads, set to be carried out in two phases. According to a statement released by the State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the first phase will focus on the Ojota-bound lane, while the second phase will address the Yaba/Ojuelegba/Maryland-bound lane.
Phase One: Ojota-Bound Lane Repairs
During the first phase, motorists heading to Ojota from Maryland/Yaba will be diverted to a counter-flow lane inbound Maryland. Those traveling to Yaba from Ojota will continue on the same lane. Alternative routes for this phase include:
Motorists from Berger, Magodo, and Tollgate along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway should use the Alapere/Ogudu axis towards Gbagada/Anthony Oke Bridge, then descend the ramp to access Ikorodu Road.
Drivers from Ikeja, Oregun, and Kudirat Abiola Way should utilize the Opebi Link Bridge to connect Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way towards Sheraton, then through Maryland to Ikorodu Road.
Those coming from Jibowu are advised to use the Ikorodu Road Service lane by the Mobil Fuel Station/Bertola Engineering Equipment Company to access Gbagada/Ogudu.
For those who miss the turn at the Mobil Fuel Station, they can use Theodolite to link Anthony Oke Ramp and rejoin Ikorodu Road to access Town Planning Way towards Gbagada/Ogudu/Alapere.
Motorists from Jibowu heading to Ikeja, Magodo, Berger, and Lagos-Ibadan Expressway should use Maryland towards Mobolaji Bank Anthony, link Sheraton/Opebi to Allen Avenue/Obafemi Awolowo Way, and access Nurudeen Olowopopo Road. Alternatively, after crossing the Opebi Link Bridge, they can use Kudirat Abiola Way to access Ikosi Road towards Mobolaji Johnson Avenue/7up and connect Nurudeen Olowopopo Road.
Phase Two: Maryland/Yaba-Bound Lane Repairs
In the second phase, motorists heading to Maryland/Yaba from Ojota will be diverted to a counter-flow lane inbound Ojota, while those from Maryland will continue on the same lane. The alternative routes include:
Motorists from Berger, Magodo, and Toll Gate should use the Alapere axis towards Gbagada, linking Anthony Oke Ramp to Ikorodu Road.
Drivers from Ikorodu/Ketu can utilize the Ojota Ramp Bridge to link Alapere and continue as previously outlined.
The alternative routes for motorists heading to Ikeja, Magodo, Berger, and Lagos-Ibadan Expressway from Jibowu during the first phase will also be applicable during the second phase.
Traffic Management and Public Appeal
Commissioner Osiyemi assured the deployment of sufficient traffic management personnel to handle the traffic situation, minimize discomfort, and ensure steady traffic flow. He appealed to residents, especially motorists, to cooperate with the interventions during the repair period.
The repairs are aimed at improving road infrastructure and ensuring safer and more efficient travel within the state.
