The impasse between Arik Air and its creditor has been resolved, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) announced on Thursday, just eight days after the Federal Government grounded one of the airline’s aircraft.
The NCAA confirmed that Arik Air is now set to resume operations. The grounding followed a court ruling in favor of the airline’s creditor, Atlas Petroleum, which led the Nigeria Airspace Management Agency to halt the airline’s activities.
In a statement on Thursday, Michael Achimugu, the NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, shared the news of the resolution via his X handle. “The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, and the Director-General of NCAA, Capt Chris Najomo, have successfully resolved the impasse between Arik Air and Atlas Petroleum,” Achimugu stated. “With this resolution, Arik Air will begin operations today. The priority of the minister and the NCAA remains to ensure safe and secure air travel for all passengers. Arik Air passengers are currently checking in for scheduled flights.”
Arik Air also confirmed the resumption of its services in a statement signed by its Chief Executive Officer, Roy Ilegbodu (in Receivership). The airline assured passengers that the brief suspension of operations had not compromised its commitment to safety.
“Arik Air is excited to announce that today, August 8, 2024, we have resumed our flight operations,” the statement read. “During our brief pause, we have been dedicated to ensuring a smooth and seamless return to service, preparing to welcome you back on board with the comfort and reliability you expect from us.”
The statement emphasized the airline’s commitment to enhancing the travel experience for its passengers and expressed gratitude to all stakeholders who played a crucial role in resolving the impasse. “Whether you are traveling for business or leisure, you can rely on Arik Air to get you to your destination smoothly and comfortably,” the statement concluded.
