Russia announced on Saturday that its forces had seized control of another village in eastern Ukraine, as Moscow’s military continues its push in the region.
According to the Russian Defence Ministry, troops have “liberated the village of Kalynove” in Ukraine’s Donetsk region. The village is located about 25 kilometres southeast of Pokrovsk, a key logistics hub still under the control of Kyiv’s forces.
For several months, Russian forces have been advancing toward Pokrovsk, leading Ukraine to order a mandatory evacuation of children from the city. Moscow has also reported capturing a series of villages in the surrounding area, even as it faces significant challenges from a major Ukrainian counteroffensive targeting Russia’s western Kursk region.
Russian President Vladimir Putin reiterated on Thursday that the country’s “primary objective” remains the capture of the entire Donbas region, which comprises Ukraine’s Donetsk and Lugansk regions. Moscow claimed to have annexed these territories, along with the southern Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions, in 2022, despite not having complete control over them.
The conflict continues to escalate as both sides battle for strategic control, with ongoing offensives from Ukrainian forces aiming to reclaim occupied territories.
