Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has thrown his weight behind the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Edo State, Asue Ighodalo, ahead of the upcoming election. Speaking on Wednesday at the groundbreaking ceremony for the upgrade of the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan to international standards, Makinde urged all PDP members to rally around Ighodalo in Saturday’s election.
Addressing speculation surrounding his absence at the party’s campaign finale, Makinde emphasized his unwavering support for the Edo candidate. “Let me declare that Seyi Makinde is 100 per cent with our candidate in Edo State, Asue Ighodalo. If Edo people want to know the difference between delicious and nutritious, they should vote for Asue Ighodalo to get what is nutritious,” he stated.
In addition to endorsing Ighodalo, Governor Makinde voiced strong backing for the PDP’s Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, amid internal party disputes. He reaffirmed his loyalty to the National Working Committee (NWC) led by Damagum and called on party members to focus on unity ahead of the Edo election.
“I have been discussing with my brother on our way here, and we are 100 per cent in support of the Iliya Damagum-led NWC. Whatever decision you take, we will support you in repositioning our party,” Makinde declared.
He further urged party stakeholders to put aside any internal issues and concentrate on securing victory for the party’s candidate in Edo. “Even if we have issues with ourselves, this is not the right time. We have an important election on Saturday, and we should all rally around and deliver our candidate,” he added.
