The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that 55,859 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) were collected in Ondo State ahead of the upcoming governorship election scheduled for November 16, 2024.
In a statement released on Tuesday by Sam Olumekun, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, the Commission disclosed that the PVCs were collected over a five-day period from October 17 to 21, representing 62.2% of the 89,777 available cards.
The collection exercise took place across all 203 wards in the state and was described as the highest percentage of PVCs collected in such a short period since the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) process began in 2015.
“The Commission is pleased to announce that 55,859 cards were personally collected by new registrants, as well as applicants for transfer and replacement of lost or damaged cards, as provided by law. This figure represents 62.2% of the available cards,” the statement said.
INEC also announced the extension of the collection exercise to its 18 local government area (LGA) offices in the state, running from October 23 to October 29, 2024. Voters are encouraged to collect their PVCs in person, as no proxies are allowed.
INEC’s full details on LGA office locations are available on its website.
