The Nigeria Police Force has strongly rejected a recent article by Ecos Intelligence titled “Nigeria Police Force Face Funding Scandal: N15,000 Allocation for 3 Months Sparks Corruption Concerns,” deeming it fake, misleading, and inaccurate. The force emphasized that no Divisional Police Officer would provide such an interview filled with derogatory inaccuracies, suggesting that it may have come from an impostor.
In response to claims made in the article regarding the lack of budgetary allocations for Divisional Headquarters and assertions that officers rely solely on unofficial funds for operations, the Police Authority clarified that Divisional Police Officers receive statutory funding from federal allocations, supplemented by support from state governments. The force labeled the article’s assertions as false and an intentional attempt to undermine and discredit the police authority.
Following the publication of the misleading article, the Inspector General of Police has initiated an immediate investigation to identify those responsible for spreading misinformation. While the police acknowledge that inadequate funding has been a longstanding challenge, they highlighted recent government efforts to increase funding aimed at enhancing operations and improving overall effectiveness. The funding situation has reportedly begun to improve, with promising prospects for further enhancements in the upcoming year.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to transparency in fulfilling its duties and warned against attempts by mischief-makers to tarnish its progress. The force emphasized that it will not allow malicious individuals to continue disparaging the institution or its dedicated officers, who work tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of the nation.
