The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, and a high-level delegation from Nigeria joined law enforcement leaders from 196 INTERPOL member countries at the 92nd INTERPOL General Assembly, which commenced today in Glasgow, United Kingdom. The assembly, scheduled to run until November 7, 2024, gathers global police chiefs and heads of agencies to address pressing international security issues.
The Nigerian delegation, led by the Honorable Minister of Police Affairs, Sen. Dr. Ibrahim Gaidam, includes the IGP, INTERPOL Vice President for Africa AIG Garba Umar (rtd), CP INTERPOL Nigeria Olaolu Adegbite, and the IGP’s Principal Staff Officer, CP Johnson Adenola. Beyond attending the assembly, the delegation will engage in strategic bilateral meetings with Europol officials and other international counterparts to discuss global security partnerships, data processing, governance, and capabilities to combat organized crime.
IGP Egbetokun expressed optimism that the assembly will strengthen Nigeria’s policing capabilities, particularly in tackling organized crime in Nigeria and the broader West African region. As chairman of the West African Police Chiefs Committee (WAPCCO), he emphasized Nigeria’s commitment to leveraging INTERPOL collaboration to enhance cross-border investigations and prevent international crimes from permeating Nigerian borders.
