Lagos State Governor and Chairman of the South-West Governors’ Forum, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has mourned the death of Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, describing his passing as the end of an era.

Fasoranti, a respected elder statesman and educationist, reportedly died on Tuesday at the age of 100.

In a condolence message personally signed by him, Sanwo-Olu described the late Yoruba leader as a symbol of wisdom, integrity and selfless service whose contributions to education, leadership and public service would remain indelible.

The governor said Fasoranti made significant contributions to Yorubaland and Nigeria through his leadership of Afenifere, the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation.

He also commended the deceased’s longstanding advocacy for truth, equity, justice, true federalism and good governance.

Sanwo-Olu extended his condolences to Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa; the government and people of Ondo State, particularly the people of Akure Kingdom; the Fasoranti family; and members of Afenifere.

“Baba Fasoranti was a respected and passionate statesman whose contributions to education, leadership and public service remain indelible. He impacted many lives positively through courageous and uncompromising leadership,” the governor said.

He added that Fasoranti’s commitment to public service and community development was commendable, noting that his leadership helped steer Afenifere in the direction of its objectives.

Sanwo-Olu said the late centenarian’s dedication to justice, equity and good governance had left a lasting mark on the Yoruba people and the country.

The governor prayed for the repose of Fasoranti’s soul and asked God to grant his family, loved ones and the Yoruba people the strength to bear the loss.
