The United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) has awarded a training grant to Zenith Bank Plc to support its adoption of Microsoft Azure, a hyperscale cloud platform.
Announced on USTDA’s website on Monday, the grant aims to enhance Zenith Bank’s institutional capabilities, boosting its data processing and storage capacity to expand digital banking services while ensuring improved transaction speed, security, and reliability.
USTDA Director Enoh Ebong highlighted the significance of the grant, stating, “This demonstrates USTDA’s commitment to deploying advanced U.S. digital infrastructure in partner countries like Nigeria. Our training grants strengthen U.S. competitiveness globally while ensuring trusted technology that safeguards data and privacy.”
Zenith Bank’s transition to Microsoft Azure will involve comprehensive organizational adjustments, including process transformation and cultural shifts. The USTDA grant will facilitate training for senior management on cloud service governance and financial management, as well as non-technical training to expedite system adaptation through leadership and innovation best practices.
Zenith Bank’s Group Managing Director and CEO, Adaora Umeoji, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership. “This collaboration with USTDA revolutionizes our cloud infrastructure, driving digital transformation and sustainable growth across Africa. It reflects our shared vision to foster economic development and shape the future of banking.”
Microsoft Nigeria and Ghana General Manager Olatomiwa Williams emphasized the impact of the grant, noting its role in enabling Zenith Bank to leverage Microsoft Azure for digital banking transformation. “This initiative will also positively impact small businesses, providing access to advanced cloud technologies to enhance innovation and competitiveness in the digital economy,” she added.
USTDA’s training grant program supports U.S. firms engaged in international infrastructure projects, helping them compete against foreign rivals offering government-backed incentives. By funding specialized training, USTDA facilitates the adoption of U.S. technologies in emerging markets, driving economic growth and securing sensitive digital infrastructure.
This initiative solidifies Zenith Bank’s position as a leader in leveraging innovative technology to enhance financial inclusion and operational efficiency while underscoring USTDA’s role in promoting U.S. economic interests abroad.
