Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has cast doubt on former U.S. President Donald Trump’s commitment to NATO and European security, raising concerns about his stance during an address at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Tuesday.
“Will President Trump even notice Europe? Does he see NATO as necessary? And will he respect EU institutions?” Zelensky asked, challenging Europe to prepare for greater self-reliance in ensuring its security.
Call for European Defense Unity
Zelensky emphasized the need for Europe to establish a cohesive defense strategy, urging countries to boost military spending to levels that reflect the region’s security needs.
“We need a united European security and defense policy,” he stated. “All European countries must be willing to spend as much on security as is truly needed. Europe must be able to guarantee peace and security for itself.”
