The Ogun State Government has announced that tolling operations on the 14.7km Epe-Mojoda-Ijebu-Ode Expressway will commence on March 24, 2025.
The Director-General of the Office of Public-Private Partnerships, Hon. Dapo Oduwole, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, citing the need for sustainable road maintenance, efficient operations, and enhanced road safety.
According to Oduwole, Governor Dapo Abiodun considers the expressway a vital economic corridor connecting Lagos and Ogun states, underscoring the urgency of its completion. He assured motorists that the road is equipped with necessary amenities to ensure a smooth and seamless driving experience.
“Upon assuming office, Governor Abiodun identified the economic significance of the Epe-Mojoda-Ijebu-Ode Expressway and incorporated it into his vision for an efficient transport system to boost the state’s microeconomy,” Oduwole stated.
The government opted for a public-private partnership (PPP) model for managing the road, including toll collection. However, tolling was delayed since 2021 to provide relief to residents and commuters.
“While we have prioritized the interests of road users, it is also necessary to consider the economic interests of investors to maintain a balance. Therefore, after nearly four years of free usage, tolling operations will now commence,” he added.
Oduwole further noted that certain vehicles would be exempted from toll fees, including emergency response vehicles such as ambulances, fire service trucks, and security patrol vehicles. Also exempted are Ogun State Government official vehicles and other categories as determined by the state government.
He urged all road users to comply with the tolling regulations, warning that enforcement measures would be strictly implemented without bias.
