Russia has commended former U.S. President Donald Trump for showing “restraint” during a heated confrontation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the White House.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, in a Telegram post on Friday, mocked Zelensky’s claim that Ukraine was left without support in 2022, calling it “his biggest lie.”
“How Trump and [Senator] Vance held back from hitting that scumbag is a miracle of restraint,” Zakharova wrote.
Meanwhile, former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, now deputy head of Russia’s Security Council, referred to Zelensky as an “insolent pig” who had received “a proper slap down in the Oval Office.”
Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund and one of Moscow’s negotiators in recent U.S.-Russia talks in Saudi Arabia, described the confrontation as “historic.”
The reported dispute between Trump and Zelensky highlights ongoing tensions between the U.S. and Ukraine, as well as Russia’s continued attempts to discredit the Ukrainian leader.
