US President Donald Trump unveiled the first “gold card” residency permit, priced at $5 million each, aboard Air Force One on Thursday.
Holding a prototype of the card, which featured his image and the inscription “The Trump Card,” Trump told reporters that the special visa would likely be available for purchase within the next two weeks.
The new visa, a premium version of the traditional green card, is designed to attract job creators to the United States. Trump previously suggested that the sales of the card could help reduce the national deficit.
As part of his second-term agenda, which emphasizes the deportation of undocumented migrants, Trump framed the gold card as a potential pathway to coveted US citizenship.
In February, the president stated that his administration aimed to sell “maybe a million” of the cards, and while he did not specifically exclude Russian oligarchs, he hinted that wealthy individuals could be among those eligible to apply for the exclusive residency permits.
