By Ayomide Otitoju

The Nigeria Police Force has announced the second edition of the Nigeria Police Awards and Commendations, set to take place on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at the Police Resource Centre in Jabi, Abuja. The initiative, approved by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, aims to celebrate acts of bravery, professionalism, integrity, and exemplary service across the Force.

Organized in collaboration with Lenders Consult International, the event is part of the IGP’s broader strategy to improve personnel motivation, welfare, and operational efficiency. Awards will be presented in multiple categories, including Crime Buster of the Year, Community Policing Advocate of the Year, Detective of the Year, DPO of the Year, and Police Officer of the Year. Additional honours will include recognition for Gallantry, Integrity, and Police Sports Person of the Year.

Special commendations from the IGP will also spotlight officers who have demonstrated excellence in specialized fields such as Public Relations, Legal Practice, and Medical Services.

According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Office, the nomination and selection process involved all police formations, from the Force Headquarters to Zonal, State, Area, and Divisional Commands. A dedicated collation committee—comprising senior officers and representatives from Lenders Consult International—reviewed submissions, with final selections made by the Force Management Team under the IGP’s leadership.

The IGP reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to rewarding merit and fostering a culture of excellence. “We will continue to implement policies that uplift the living and working standards of our officers. This initiative is a testament to our resolve that exceptional service will always be acknowledged,” he said.
