Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has sworn in newly appointed chairmen and members of the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission (LASERC), and the final member of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), urging them to uphold transparency, integrity, and professionalism in their roles.
During the swearing-in ceremony held at Lagos House, Ikeja, on Monday, the Governor emphasized the critical role each commission plays in advancing the state’s THEMES+ agenda, which focuses on governance, innovation, and inclusive development. He charged the appointees to embrace technology and foster collaboration with civil society, communities, and the private sector to deliver tangible results.
The TESCOM appointees include Mrs. Mopelola Peregrino as Chairman, along with Mrs. Kafayat Ajenifuja (Commissioner I), Mr. Abiodun Bamgboye (Commissioner II), Hon. Segun Agbaje (Commissioner III), and Mrs. Abimbola Idowu (Commissioner IV). Prince Adewale Ojora was also sworn in as a member of LASIEC.
Appointees to LASERC are Engr. Abimbola Odubiyi (Chairman/Non-Executive Member), Mr. Tunde Gbajumo (Non-Executive Member), Dr. Fouad Animasahun (Executive Member/CEO), Barr. Kofoworola Olokun-Olawoyin (Executive Member), and Engr. Oluwaseun Fadare (Executive Member).
Highlighting the significance of LASERC’s formation, Governor Sanwo-Olu noted that Lagos is now among the few Nigerian states with full regulatory control over its electricity market following the 2024 Lagos Electricity Bill and the formal transfer of oversight from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
“LASERC is tasked with ensuring affordable, reliable, and sustainable electricity supply for Lagos, regulating tariffs, promoting renewables, enforcing standards, and addressing underserved communities,” he said, adding that the restructuring of Eko and Ikeja electricity distribution companies to LASERC-licensed subsidiaries will enhance local responsiveness.
The Governor also emphasized LASIEC’s role in upholding fairness and integrity in the upcoming July 12 local government elections, calling on the commission to sustain public confidence in Lagos’s democratic institutions.
Sanwo-Olu encouraged Lagosians to actively engage in education, governance, and energy development, stating, “Every child deserves quality education, every vote must count, and every home and business must enjoy reliable power.”
Earlier, the Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, described the appointments as a call to service and urged the appointees to demonstrate unwavering dedication. He noted that the establishment of LASERC was driven by reforms aimed at boosting power generation and distribution in Lagos.
Agoro added that the appointments reflect Governor Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to transparency, meritocracy, and inclusive governance.
