By Ayomide Otitoju

ExxonMobil has announced the appointment of Jagir Baxi as Chairman, Managing Director, and Lead Country Manager of its Nigerian affiliates, including Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited and Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria (Offshore East) Limited. He succeeds Shane Harris, who led the company’s Nigerian operations for the past two years.

Baxi brings over two decades of global industry experience to his new role. Prior to his appointment, he served as Executive Director for Production at ExxonMobil Nigeria.

In a statement, Baxi expressed commitment to strengthening partnerships with the Nigerian Government, NNPC Limited, contractors, and host communities.

“Nigeria has vast deepwater growth potential in oil and gas. With an improving investment climate and existing assets such as Erha and Usan, I am honoured to lead our team in contributing to the nation’s energy goals,” he said.

Since joining ExxonMobil in 1999, Baxi has held key leadership roles across several countries including Australia, Angola, Iraq, Qatar, Papua New Guinea, and the United States. His expertise spans LNG, operations, joint ventures, and engineering.

He holds dual graduate degrees in Engineering and Science from Monash University and an MBA from Melbourne Business School, Australia.

His appointment signals ExxonMobil’s continued commitment to leveraging its global capabilities to advance Nigeria’s deepwater oil and gas aspirations.
