Dangote to Exit Dangote Cement Chairmanship in 2025

By Ayomide Otitoju

Africa’s richest man and industrialist, Aliko Dangote, has stepped down as Chairman of the Board of Dangote Cement Plc, effective July 25, 2025, the company has announced.

In a statement released by Group Chief Branding & Communications Officer, Anthony Chiejina, Dangote’s decision was attributed to his intention to focus on strategic sectors such as refinery, petrochemicals, fertiliser, and regulatory engagement, in line with the company’s five-year growth strategy.

The Board has appointed Emmanuel Ikazoboh, an independent non-executive director, as the new Chairman. Also appointed to the board is Hajiya Mariya Aliko Dangote, while Prof. Dorothy Ufot retires from her position.

In his acceptance speech, Ikazoboh pledged to uphold strong governance standards and drive sustainable growth.

“Dangote Cement is a flagship of African enterprise. My focus will be on operational excellence, strategic expansion, sustainability, innovation, and community engagement,” he said.

Ikazoboh brings vast experience from his previous roles as Group Chairman of Ecobank Transnational Inc., Managing Partner at Deloitte West and Central Africa, and Interim Administrator of the Nigerian Stock Exchange appointed by the SEC in 2010.

He also announced plans to intensify the company’s shift toward alternative energy sources, reduce costs amid inflation, and invest in staff development.

Dangote Cement is Africa’s leading cement producer with a significant footprint across multiple countries. The leadership change marks a new chapter in its ongoing evolution.
