President Bola Tinubu has approved a one-year extension of the tenure of Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.
The extension, which will now keep Adeniyi in office beyond his scheduled retirement date of August 31, 2025, was announced in a statement issued Thursday by Presidential Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the Presidency, the decision is aimed at allowing Adeniyi to consolidate ongoing reforms within the Customs Service and complete key initiatives under the current administration.
“These include the modernisation of the Nigeria Customs Service, the implementation of the National Single Window Project, and the execution of Nigeria’s obligations under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA),” Onanuga stated.
The extension is seen as a strategic move to sustain momentum in critical economic and trade reforms.
