Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Ltd. (SNEPCo) has reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing future leaders in Africa’s energy sector by hosting 25 young engineers and geologists from across the continent at its Lagos offices.
The participants, drawn from Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad, Ghana, Tanzania, Kenya, Angola, and Uganda, were in the country for the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Nigeria Annual International Conference and Exhibition (NAICE).
The visit offered the group first-hand insight into SNEPCo’s operations, including its pioneering role in Nigeria’s deepwater oil and gas industry, which began with the Bonga field in 2005—Nigeria’s first project in water depths exceeding 1,000 metres.
Speaking on behalf of Managing Director Ronald Adams, General Manager, Emerging Projects, Olaposi Fadahunsi, outlined Shell’s sponsorship and scholarship initiatives in partnership with the SPE and encouraged the visitors to leverage available opportunities to advance their careers.
The delegation also received briefings on production optimisation, digitalisation, automation, reservoir management, safety protocols, and operational planning. General Manager, Deepwater Oil Portfolio, Iyke Nnoaham, delivered a session on career development and strategic decision-making for young professionals.
SNEPCo’s talent development efforts also extend to the Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES), which equips undergraduates with practical industry skills and networking opportunities. The current intake includes 28 interns from 17 Nigerian universities, deployed across various operational units.
