Chelsea have completed the signing of Argentine winger Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United in a deal worth a reported £40 million ($54 million).
The 21-year-old has agreed a seven-year contract with the reigning Club World Cup champions and was unveiled at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, where he watched his new team secure a 2-0 victory over Fulham to go top of the Premier League.
“It’s an incredible moment for my family and me to join this great club. I can’t wait to get started,” Garnacho said. “To join the world champions is special – we’re the best team in the world. I’m very happy to be here.”
Garnacho made 144 appearances for Manchester United, scoring 26 goals, including one in the club’s FA Cup final win over Manchester City in 2024. However, he fell out of favour under manager Ruben Amorim and was sidelined from first-team training alongside Antony and Jadon Sancho.
His arrival adds to Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca’s attacking options, which already include Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, Estevao, and Jamie Gittens. However, Delap’s hamstring injury in the Fulham match, expected to sideline him for six to eight weeks, could complicate plans to loan out Nicolas Jackson to Bayern Munich.
“When you have two strikers, it’s enough. When one of them is injured for different weeks, probably it’s not enough,” Maresca admitted after the match, hinting that Jackson may now be required to remain in London.
