The Kwara State Police Command has arrested one Adeola Badru for allegedly defrauding a political appointment seeker, Joseph Olugbenga, of ₦300 million under the pretext of securing him a federal board position.
Police said Badru is facing allegations of criminal breach of trust, forgery, and obtaining money under false pretences.
According to investigators, the suspect approached Olugbenga in 2023, claiming to have strong political connections and promising him a seat on the board of the South West Development Commission for a fee of ₦300 million. Convinced, Olugbenga reportedly paid the sum in instalments, after which Badru fled to Ibadan, Oyo State, and cut off all contact.
Olugbenga later petitioned the Kwara State Police Command in February 2023. Speaking at a press briefing in Ilorin on Thursday, Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, confirmed that the Criminal Investigation Department tracked Badru to his hideout in Ibadan, where he was arrested.
“During interrogation, the suspect voluntarily admitted to the crime,” Ojo said, adding that forged documents and other incriminating items were recovered.
The police chief noted that further investigations are ongoing and assured that Badru would be charged in court once the probe is concluded.
