The Young Christian Fellowships in Nigeria Without Borders (YCFNB) has declared a 14-day national fasting and prayer campaign, from September 15 to 29, to “stand against perceived threats” to the operations of the Dangote Refinery.
In a statement signed by Rev. Samuel Pam and Pastor JohnGrace Achaluda, the group said the initiative is in response to the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG)’s recent warnings of a nationwide strike over alleged breaches of agreements involving government officials and the Department of State Services (DSS).
The YCFNB criticised NUPENG’s stance, describing it as reckless and potentially harmful to national stability. The group warned that such actions could trigger fuel scarcity, economic disruption, and hardship for millions of Nigerians.
While condemning the union’s approach, the fellowship praised Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group, as a “patriot under siege” whose 650,000-barrel-per-day refinery has reduced Nigeria’s dependence on fuel imports and even commenced exports to the United States.
“Dangote’s resilience in the face of opposition reflects integrity and national pride,” the statement read, adding that the refinery’s achievements symbolise hope for Nigeria’s economic sovereignty.
Quoting Deuteronomy 28:7, the YCFNB called on Christian communities nationwide to join the intercession campaign, urging divine protection for the refinery’s operations and Dangote’s vision.
The fellowship further cautioned NUPENG against plunging the country into fuel scarcity, warning that public backlash could be severe if queues resurface at filling stations.
According to the group, the fasting programme seeks to safeguard the refinery’s role in stabilising fuel supply and protecting livelihoods across the country.
