President Bola Tinubu will deliver a national broadcast at 7 a.m. on Wednesday to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day anniversary.
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced the development in a statement issued on Tuesday. The broadcast will be aired live on Channels Television and other electronic media platforms.
This will be President Tinubu’s third Independence Day address since assuming office on May 29, 2023. The broadcast forms part of activities lined up by the Federal Government for the milestone anniversary.
According to the government, this year’s theme underscores the need for unity, collaboration, and patriotism among institutions, the private sector, civil society, and citizens to advance peace, prosperity, and progress. The theme also reflects Nigeria’s resilience since independence in 1960 and the drive to consolidate past gains while pursuing greater aspirations under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Other scheduled activities include a Juma’at prayer on Friday, September 26, and an inter-denominational church service on Sunday, September 28.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government has cancelled the traditional Independence Day parade earlier slated for October 1. A statement from the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, clarified that the cancellation does not diminish the significance of the anniversary.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to celebrating Nigeria’s 65th independence “with dignity and enthusiasm.”
