The Kano State Police Command has announced the arrest of nine suspects linked to a series of armed robbery operations across Kano, Kaduna, and Abuja, following a coordinated intelligence-led operation carried out by the Command’s Special Intervention Squad (SIS).
The arrests were made under the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, who has charged all commands and formations nationwide to dominate public spaces and decisively combat criminal activities.
According to the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, the breakthrough followed a violent robbery incident reported on October 8, 2025, around 2 a.m. at Unguwar Wambai, Dorayi Babba Quarters, where armed men invaded a residence and carted away valuables, including a Toyota Yaris, ₦3.7 million in local and foreign currency, and three mobile phones. The robbers also reportedly assaulted the victim’s wife, causing serious injuries.
Prompt response from officers attached to the Dorayi Divisional Headquarters led to the arrest of one suspect, which subsequently triggered a wider operation by the SIS that resulted in the apprehension of eight additional suspects at various locations across Kano and Kaduna States.

Police investigations revealed that the suspects confessed to multiple armed robbery operations, including a recent attack at Unguwar Jakada, Dorayi Quarters, Kano.
Items recovered from the suspects include:
One double-barrel gun (breach no. 273720) with 18 live cartridges
One English Falcon pistol (breach no. RFJA 170521867)
One scrapped Phoenix pistol
One iron cutter, two cutlasses, and four sharp knives
Three torchlights
One red Toyota Corolla LE (reg. no. ADK 787 EV)
Two mobile phones
The Commissioner confirmed that all suspects will be charged to court upon completion of investigations, with ongoing efforts to recover additional exhibits.
He also commended the success of the “Operation Kukan Kura” community policing model, which has led to a significant decline in crimes such as phone snatching, armed robbery, and thuggery (“Fadan Daba”) in the state.
“I commend the bravery and professionalism of our officers for this major breakthrough,” the Commissioner said. “We also appreciate the public for their continued support and urge them to keep providing valuable information to help us combat crime and ensure safety across Kano State.”
