Russia’s Defence Ministry announced on Monday that its air defence systems intercepted and destroyed 193 Ukrainian drones overnight, marking one of the largest reported aerial attacks since the start of the war.
In a statement on Telegram, the ministry said the drones were “fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles” launched by Ukraine. It added that Russian forces shot down 47 drones over the Bryansk region — which borders Ukraine — and 40 more in the Moscow region, with most of them reportedly targeting the capital.
Bryansk Governor Aleksandr Bogomaz confirmed that a civilian minibus was struck in the village of Pogar during the attack, killing the driver and injuring five passengers.
The overnight incident comes amid a surge in drone warfare between the two countries. Russia has maintained an almost continuous wave of drone and missile strikes, primarily aimed at crippling Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, as the conflict nears its third year.
In response, Ukraine has intensified its own long-range attacks, frequently targeting Russian oil refineries and energy facilities deep within Russian territory.
